CAD and US dollar accounts side by side

Each Finman account keeps its own currency. A US dollar account at your Canadian bank stays in USD, a Wise balance in euros stays in euros, and your chequing account stays in CAD. Totals and net worth convert to the base currency you pick, and Finman treats those converted totals as estimates that move with exchange rates; the original amounts never change.

Moving from Mint to Finman

Mint closed on March 23, 2024. Its bank connections cannot be carried over to any app, so every replacement connects or imports your accounts again. In Finman that means creating your accounts, importing a few months of statement files from your bank, and saving category rules once; budgets, goals and debts are then rebuilt on real numbers.

Questions from Canadians

Who makes Finman and how your data is treated: about Finman

Is there a free budgeting app in Canada?
Finman is free during its open beta: every feature, with no card. It is built by INNOVA CONSULT LTD. in Ottawa and imports statement files from the big Canadian banks. After the beta the Free plan stays at $0; Pro is planned at $9 a month and Family at $19 a month.
Which Canadian banks does Finman work with?
RBC Royal Bank, TD Canada Trust, Scotiabank, BMO, CIBC, Tangerine, Wealthsimple Cash and EQ Bank, through the CSV, OFX or QFX file you download from online banking. Revolut and Wise files work the same way, monobank connects with a personal API token, and manual entry works for any bank.
Does Finman connect directly to RBC, TD or my other Canadian bank?
No. Finman does not connect to Canadian banks and never asks for your online banking password. You download the statement file in online banking and import it into Finman.
Can I track CAD and USD accounts in one budget app?
Yes. Each account in Finman keeps its own currency, so a US dollar account stays in USD next to your Canadian dollar accounts. Totals and net worth convert to the base currency you choose; converted totals are estimates that move with exchange rates.
Is Finman a Canadian company?
Finman is developed by INNOVA CONSULT LTD., a federal corporation (number 1522612-1) in Ottawa, Ontario, incorporated in 2023. Its founder and director is Maksym Stepanenko.
Is there a Finman app on Google Play or the App Store?
Not yet. Finman is a web app at app.finman.money that runs in the browser on Android, iPhone and desktop and installs to the home screen. Store versions are not published yet.
What can Canadians use instead of Mint?
Mint closed on March 23, 2024. Finman covers the same job of budgets, bills, net worth and investments, built from your bank's statement files with no bank login, and is free during its open beta. Mint's bank connections cannot be carried over to any app, so every replacement connects or imports your accounts again.
