Budgets · Open beta
Free budget app for your phone and desktop
Set a spending limit for each category, bring transactions in from a bank file or type them in, and Finman flags a budget at 80% spent or when your pace will break it. Every feature is free during the open beta, and the Free plan stays at $0 after it.
Is it really free?
What you get for $0 today

After the beta the Free plan stays at $0 with accounts and transactions, budgets and goals, and CSV import.

What is included
A budget that warns you before the month runs out
Each part below is switched on for every account during the open beta. The full list of features is on the features page.
- 01
A limit for each category
Groceries, rent, transport, eating out: give each category its own limit. Periods can be monthly, weekly or custom, and a household can share one budget.
- 02
A flag at 80% or on pace
Finman flags a budget once 80% of it is spent, or earlier, when the current pace of spending will break it before the period ends.
- 03
Envelope mode
Tick Roll over the remainder on a budget and it works like a cash envelope: what you did not spend is added to the next period's limit, and an overspend is taken off it. A short guide: envelope budgeting method.
- 04
Roll forward in one click
When a period ends, one Roll forward click closes it for every envelope budget, so a quiet month pays for a busy one.
- 05
Categories with your own rules
Imported transactions get a category from the merchant code or keywords in the description. Whatever lands in Other, your own rules sort with one Apply rules click.
- 06
Entries offline
Type a purchase in at the till with no signal; it is kept on the phone and syncs when the connection returns.

Best free budget app?

Finman imports the CSV, OFX or QFX file you download from online banking and does not connect to RBC, TD, Scotiabank, BMO, CIBC and the other Canadian banks it reads. monobank connects with a personal API token. More on this in budgeting app without a bank login.
